St. Teresa of Avila complies with The Decree on Child Protection which is promulgated by the Archbishop of Cincinnati.

A thorough background check is required for all those employed or volunteering to work with youth or vulnerable adults as a cleric, at a parish or school, as an Archdiocesan employee or at an Archdiocesan institution. All volunteers and employees are required to complete the electronic/online background check through SELECTION.com prior to beginning their volunteer activity or employment. In addition to the electronic/online background check, employees are required to complete manual fingerprinting and submit a B4 form before beginning their employment at an Archdiocesan parish, school, or institution.

SafeParish is the training model used in conjunction with the Decree on Child Protection of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Anyone having contact with children as a volunteer or Archdiocese employee must be trained in the Decree. All other Catholics of the Archdiocese are urged to be familiar with its contents as well.

To gain approval for volunteering or working with children there are several requirements which must be met before approval will be granted. The steps are easy, affordable, and streamlined, knowing how valuable your time is.

1. As a Volunteer or employee, you are required to register with SafeParish and have an “online” background check done.  To access or register for your SafeParish account go to http://www.aocsafeenvironment.org.
2. You can also do your “online” background check when you register for a class.   It is easy and the $25.00 cost can be charged to your credit card. We do not offer tokens for background checks. By having your background done at the same time you register for a Session, you help streamline the process and reduce the amount of time it takes to gain approval.  It can also be done directly through www.selection.com.
3. The last requirement is to stay current with your SafeParish account.
